Act 60 - What you should know: Act 60 affects Vermont education, The state wide property tax in Act 60 affects education. Act 60 changes the Vermont economy.

NOTICE

August, 2004

Sometimes people have to re-prioritize to make more time for other important things in life. And so it goes, after nearly seven years of updating Act60.org I have retired this website. This doesn't mean the fight for fair taxation is over, nor that the problems of soaring property taxes have been solved, nor that people are acquiescing in Act 60 (witness the efforts of several towns to exit Vermont and join New Hampshire). It's just a matter of personal priorities.

I know there was a lot of good history in these pages. This was, in 1997, one of the first political issue websites ever published. I also believe Act 60 was, without exception, the most divisive piece of legislation passed in Vermont in at least the past two decades. And so here we saw documented the intrigue, power plays, struggles, anger, pain, and heartfelt pleas of the good citizens of Vermont in the face of fundamental changes in our government leveraged not by popular consent, but by our Supreme Court.

Being the history buff and pack rat that I am, I didn't just turn off the web site. I saved everything and I am willing to make copies of the whole website (and tons of ancillary materials) available on CD at my cost ($50). If you'd like a copy, send me an email at jeffp@boskydell.com for instructions. I also have provided copies to the UVM library (Special Collections) and the Vermont Historical Society.

Keep up the good fight!

All the best,
Jeffrey P.
